Sedano has been hailed as one of Europe’s young master painters, winning the 22nd Annual BMW Prize in Madrid. This award is given annually in a competition among the best young painters of Europe. The award—similar to a Nobel prize, but given in painting—bears a purse of 35,000 Euros, and is awarded by Queen Sofia of Spain. Sedano won the award for his painting Nevada(Snow). In the stated group opinion of the judges (art luminaries drawn from across Europe): “Nevada is a winter landscape, with a realist basis and impressionist touch which represents the effect of a snowfall. The whites and grays contrast with the copper-colored rocks on a rusty, scrap metal base, in perfect harmony, creating an atmosphere that is crystal-clear and clean”. Sedano’s work has evolved into a luminous realism, infused by the grays, greens and blues of the region near Bilbao. His work combines expert technical painting, superb compositional skill and a mastery of subtle shading of color. His work has been compared to the prime years of Sargent and to any number of Impressionists. Sedano works in a style of his own making, combining academic training in historic techniques with his mastery of color. He has been exhibited throughout Spain, and his work is held in private collections throughout Europe.
