A quick study of his paintings reveals much about the man who created them. Their natural appearance and attention to detail tell you that whoever created these marvels of imagery has a great love of his subjects, and is very familiar with them and their surroundings. There is reverence for their cunning and wit, admiration for their beauty and survivability and an intimacy between subject and artist that is rare. Ramsey Mapunde was born on June 28, 1969 in Blantyre, Malawi, Africa as one of seven siblings. He began displaying his natural talents and the desire to express himself by sketching in the sands of Lake Malawi as a boy. His natural abilities combined with his great love for the wildlife, and the solace he found in looking upon them led him to take up paint and brush in earnest at the age of 16. This promise shown ultimately took him to the University of Malawi. Now married with two beautiful children, Ramsey continues to live and work in his native land creating intimate portraits of his life-long friends. |
